A lot of animal owners agree that one of the best life decisions that they have ever made is adopting or buying an animal as their lives have changed forever. A lot of them who have felt very lonely have filled their lives full of joy after they spend a lot of time with their animal friends. A lot of others who at the beginning refused to get one, especially parents whose children ask them constantly for a pet have admitted that they were glad that their children were insisting because the impact that their animals had in their lives was incredible.
There is another group of people who face a lot of difficulties due to disabilities that they are born with or have been affected by during their lives. Sometimes, animals are even more important to them for certain reasons, one of which is these animals serving as guide horses for blind people. It is really difficult to get oriented when you can’t actually see where you are going, that’s why guide animals are so important during these situations.
Let’s get to understand the importance of it better through the story below. A husband and wife have created a unique therapeutic horse farm as a place to train miniature horses as guides for the blind. Rafi and his wife founded the farm in Israel after first coming across the miniature horse breed on a trip to Belgium. Rafi said: “I saw how good they were with children and people in need such as elderly and the blind.” He describes how he knew straight away he had to bring the breed over to Israel to begin working with them and starting training them to become guides for the blind.
Rafi said: “There are many advantages to using guide horses, for example, people who are allergic to dogs won’t have a problem with horses and while a dog lives for 10 years a horse can live up to 40 years.’ Not only this but dogs usually get distracted easily by random things that they look at in the streets, leave alone that the size of a horse is more convenient than of a dog in such situations. The pony in the video below is simply amazing and I wish nothing but the best for it. Let us know what you think about guide horses after you have watched the video below.
